What Kind of Well Are You Drawing From?

A well is a hole in the earth where you can retrieve, a natural source of water. With this definition in mind, lets dive in with the story of the woman at the well. In John 4, there’s a woman in Samaria, in a town called Sychar, near the ground Jacob gave to Joseph. She always came at noon in the heat of the day, while the other women came in the morning in the cool of the day. She came at this time to avoid the other women, so they would not judge her. The Samaritan woman had a thirst, her life was dry and parched. Her soul felt like a never ending-drought. So, she comes to the well to draw out, but in this well, what she seeks she will not find there.

One day, Jesus tired from His journey, sat down by Jacob’s well. It was about the sixth hour, when the Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus asked her for a drink. The woman mentioned that he was a Jew, and she was a Samaritan. How can He ask her for a drink, knowing Jews and Samaritans do not associate? His reply, “But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him, shall never thirst again; but the water shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. The woman wanted to know where the living water is he gives? “Are you greater than Jacob, who gave us this well, who himself drank from it, and also his children and cattle?”

Jesus repeated himself, “Whosoever drinks of that water will thirst again: But whosoever drinks of the water I shall give they shall not thirst; the water I shall give shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. She wanted this water that she would not have to thirsts again. Plus, she wouldn’t have to come draw from this well anymore. The women had the wrong understanding about the water he was offering. The Samaritan asked Him to give her of this water. If we stop for a moment, we might see ourselves in this woman. Trying to fill the emptiness with outer solutions. No matter the amount we consume it will never satisfy that thirst. Yet, we still show up again and again with our water jars.

Today there is a man who is not like any other man. He can show you what is at the bottom of your heart. Before this can happen, we must let go of our insecurities in order to find what truly shelters us. This requires a major shift in our perception. We have to abandon the outer solutions we think can fill our void. It means letting down our customary defenses and come to a man who will give us living water. This promise is of something better. We must let go of the old way and come to this well which we will thirst no more. We will have a spring of water welling up to eternal life. If we choose this way things will fall into proper order.

We must make the necessary changes to experience God’s fullness and blessings; everything we need is here. In Matthew 6:33, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” This is a chance at a fresh start, a better you. We have a need to come to the well to draw the natural water, but let’s leave with the living water. Jesus knows our needs and He will come to our natural well to meet those needs. We have to recognize our inabilities and enter into an encounter with Him; Jesus is passing by. Come to the man that will make you feel different inside. Come with the troubled heart, bring the despair, the loneliness, the guilt, the brokenness. When you leave you will feel free in His presence. Decide to let go all that make you feel less than God intends for anyone to feel. Become full of the spring of water welling up to eternal life instead.

My name is Daphne Mills, writing was something I did all the time. Not realizing that it was going to turn into this moment. As a person who loves God, I decided to step out on faith. I am glad I did, because that step brought me to Milo first one of a series. And this platform Grieving: Together We Rise. Come join me on this journey seeing where it's going to lead. I learned with a new outlook everything will become beautiful in its own timing. With a little change in the way we see things it can bring about wonderful things.
