According to Mom loves best, Daphne comes from a Greek word meaning Laurel and derives from the myth of Daphne and Apollo. Daphne vowed to chastity to Artemis. But it didn’t stop Apollo from loving her any way. To escape the unwanted attention of pursuit from Apollo, she asked her father for help in the matter. He turned her into a laurel tree. Despite the Greek origin, North Americans saw the name as British. The name is associated back to the Victorian times which symbolizing flowers. Daphne popularity has been inconsistent ranking 466 of the top 500 girl names in 2001. But the name tends to shift back and forth. 2013 it was 288 out of 500 girl names. Thanks to Daphne of Scooby Doo, the character helped the numbers rise. Last year the name got its standing ovation for its highest number ever 1643.85. In the case of Daphne and Apollo, it is about the importance of learning to know when to let go of the thing you love. This is where the highest ranking starts and there will not be any shifting back and forth. Because the tree is planted, and its roots run deep.
