Tearing Down The Walls of Jericho In Our Lives

When we obey God, He will respond and tear down the walls in our lives. The Great Wall of China it was built to prevent a large-scale invasion. The great wall is a example of the numerous walls that have been constructed throughout history. The first massive wall was the Roman empire. The Romans build their walls for defense primarily. The walls protected the city for centuries. Not all walls are defensive in nature. Some are design to keep people in. A case and point was the Berlin Wall. This wall separated the East and West Germany for decades. It became a symbol of the Iron Curtain that separated West Europe and the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War. It was a barrier to progress the unification of the nation. Years following the war the wall fell down. This fall led to the reunification of Germany, history has shown some walls need to fall.

Let’s look at another wall from history, Joshua 6:20, So the people shouted when the priest blow the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up, every man straight before him, and they took the city. God can provide through unusual means. God gave Joshua an unusual battle plan. He chose to believe Him even when he didn’t understand God’s plan for them. He went on and marched to victory. He chose to obey God’s command even when they did not make sense to Him.

Lets discover two key principles of advancement into God’s promise. First, there are always battles along the journey into the promises. Paul describe how the righteousness of God is revealed: from faith to faith. The just will live by faith (Romans 1:17). A person who has faith will be led from one situation to another that requires faithful obedience to God and His ways. The second key principle of advancement is that God’s ways and paths to victory are usually different than the ways we are use to. Yes, we will have to fight, but it will be in an unusual, God-designed battle plan that leads to victory. A plan where we need great faith where God is in control.

The correlation between integrity, honesty, purity, prayer, fasting, forgiveness, and receiving, all of these are difficult. They require trust like Job. The struggle is worth it if it maintains our integrity. Battling to stay pure in an impure world is worth seeing and experiencing God’s fullness. The forgiveness and freedom that only come from being forgiving is priceless. Let’s examine our hearts and decide to really surrender all and to truly follow where He leads. What are you talking about surrender all? Honesty is not profitable in the business dealings. Surrender all in the passions of a relationship to keep it pure. Following the leading when someone has wounded and you want revenge, and choose to live with the bitterness. What are you talking about? Complete obedience even when we do not understand, brings the fulness of God to direct our footsteps. Proverbs 3:5-6 states, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

If you trust and lean not to your understanding your obedience will pay off even in the face of challenges. A people whose history was recorded as a people of murmuring, questioning, and complaining, but at the wall they simply just did what they were told to do. They marched, they stayed silent, and they shouted at the time they were instructed. For their act, it yielded miraculous access to them in the battle the wall fell down flat. God gave them total victor over Jericho. Once again, obedience yielded favor and divine interventions as He promised, the wall came tumbling down.

God removed the obstacles that blocked the promise. Their complete obedience led to God’s complete provision. This divine principle of submission and obedience is the same today. When God’s children trust Him fully, they will see the miraculous. Walls that seem insurmountable can be leveled. Barricades and blockages of the spiritual progress can be removed. Addictions and habits can lose their grips. Oppressions and possessions must disappear when a heart is fully submitted. Joshua and his army discovered this at the wall they was facing; and we must discover it at the walls that separate us from the promises of God.

Remembering a story that was told to me goes right along with this message. A ox fell in a well, it let out a cry and the farmer came to try and help the helpless ox. But because of its size the farmer failed at all his attempts. He decided to take the animal out of its misery and bury him. The farmer started shoveling dirt into the well. As the farmer regrettably heaved each pile of dirt into the well. The ox demonstrated its survival, as each pile of dirt landed on its back, the ox shook it off. With the dirt that was meant to bury him now was under his feet. The ox began to climb up, pile after pile, step after step. As the ox rose higher, the famer sees the determination of the ox’s will to live, he continued to throw the dirt into the well. Eventually the ox was able to climb out of the well. What was used as an attempt to bury the ox, the ox use the dirt as a way of escape.

At times we can find ourselves in overwhelming situations. The walls of the pit seem to be closing in, in such times we have to know that God is with us He will never leave us. As messy as the circumstances piles on we must not lose hope. Be dedicated and determined to emerge victorious. God will turn our trials into testimonies. The pain of our lives will become the purpose for our lives. Whether he brings the walls down or help us rise above them, we must be faithful and trust in him, He will bring us to the other side of the walls and into His promises.

My name is Daphne Mills, writing was something I did all the time. Not realizing that it was going to turn into this moment. As a person who loves God, I decided to step out on faith. I am glad I did, because that step brought me to Milo first one of a series. And this platform Grieving: Together We Rise. Come join me on this journey seeing where it's going to lead. I learned with a new outlook everything will become beautiful in its own timing. With a little change in the way we see things it can bring about wonderful things.
