We all have longings in our heart, we also have many wants. There are areas in our lives that only God can help us out with. Anything out of the will of God we will not get, no matter how much we desire it. We have to make sure it is according to his principles. If the Lord becomes our shepherd than we shall not want. David who was a shepherd tending the sheep shows us how God can take care of our needs. Let’s take a look at sheep, left alone they become helpless. The shepherd leads the flock, he cares for the sheep. Without the shepherd, the sheep becomes lost.
Listen for the knock on the door of your heart. Open the door, because the shepherd is inviting you to the green pastures and still waters. There are many voices leading us in the opposite directions. We must ignore them and reach for the still waters. How do we know that we shall not want, when everything in our lives say different? We have to know that Jesus Christ is our Shepherd, He spilled his blood, so we could lay down in the green pastures and our soul restored by the still waters (Ps. 23). He Left us His rod and staff teaching us that even in discomfort or the valley of the shadow of death, He will send his goodness and mercy to chase after us.
The shepherd knows each one of his sheep. And if one gets lost, he will go seek it out to find it. God knows our comings and goings; He even knows the number of hairs on our head. We shouldn’t worry because he will provide for our every need. We might not have all we desire, may not have the recognition we want, we may be struggling, we may be in trouble, our hearts may be broken, but if we trust the shepherd, he will fill the void with Himself.
